The Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) - a portable skills credential

WIN is the national leader in implementing statewide initiatives involving Career Readiness Certificates, providing the WIN Courseware as a workplace skills building solution.

There is great concern in the private sector about the gap that exists between the skills required in today's workplace and those exhibited by potential and incumbent employees. Businesses have trouble finding and hiring people who have basic employable skills and who are therefore trainable for specific jobs.

Experts know that by 2020, more than 90% of all jobs will require skill levels beyond those gained in high school. Almost all workers will need training and education at the post-secondary level. In the United States, most training is done on the job, and all indications are that this situation will not change in the coming decades. What employers need therefore, are employees who are trainable, and who can benefit from the many opportunities afforded them for skill enhancement..

Career Readiness Certificates (CRCs), based on ACT, Inc.’s WorkKeys® employment system, are a portable skills credential that assures an employer that a job applicant actually has the basic skills they seek and is trainable for the job. Utilized as a workforce education and development tool, Career Readiness Certificates bring employers, student/jobseekers and education/workforce partners together in building a skilled workforce, keeping and attracting businesses with high-wage jobs to a state, and growing that state’s economy.

States implementing Career Readiness Certificates across the nation utilize the WIN Courseware to build workplace skills along with ACT, Inc.’s WorkKeys® assessments as a common-language for education, workforce, and economic development. WIN is the national leader in implementing Career Readiness Certificates providing a portable credential that promotes career development and skill attainment for the individual, and confirms to employers that an individual possesses basic workplace skills that all jobs require. WIN is the only entity to have implemented statewide initiatives with Career Readiness Certificates and the WIN Courseware is used as the skill-building tool helping students and jobseekers earn Career Readiness Certificates in numerous statewide programs from Florida to Alaska.
